Louis CK recently explored a new model of fans supporting artists. Rather than distribute a DVD of a live performance via the traditional model, one that involves countless hands in the pot that raises the prices for customers while simultaneoulsy limiting his creative input, Louis CK distributed the video straight from his website via PayPal. This model isn’t completely new, as its been explored by artists such as Radiohead in the past. But I think his insight is dead on, and I believe, supports other models, such as the one I’m working towards with thesis.

I learned that money can be a lot of things. It can be something that is hoarded, fought over, protected, stolen and withheld. Or it can be like an energy, fueled by the desire, will, creative interest, need to laugh, of large groups of people. And it can be shuffled and pushed around and pooled together to fuel a common interest, jokes about garbage, penises and parenthood.
